Robert John Thornton (c. 1768-1837) was an English physician and botanical writer. 40 years of Thorntons life after entering the medical profession were shaped by his obsession with botany – his enthusiasm for the scientific knowledge of plants – which culminated in the publication of The Temple of Flora. The work consists of 28 plant illustrations. These facsimiles are printed by Taschen.
