Robert John Thornton (c. 1768-1837) was an English physician and botanical writer. 40 years of Thornton's life after entering the medical profession were shaped by his obsession with botany – his enthusiasm for the scientific knowledge of plants – which culminated in the publication of The Temple of Flora. These illustrations are facsimiles printed by Taschen.
